... and the wind moaned (2010, loop 8m 22s, video projection on 3 windows)
.... and the wind moaned is a video installation based on the documentation of an intervention during the heat wave in Berlin 2010, when the temperature reached above 35 degrees celcius.
The sun's formidable magnificence renders any attempts to approach it deadly. Solo in its responsibility for all known life, the sun practices restraint as it sustains us, careful not to err towards incineration. The sun is the benchmark for time in life, outliving all meagre, individual existences. Its solitude transforms the sun from a golden flag of glory into a flag of white light, signalling its surrender. But there is no one to whom the sun can surrender - except to itself.
And the wind can only try to comfort the sun in its loneliness.
On 16th July, 2010, a golden and silver flag was planted in the Volkspark Prenzlauer Berg close to Hohenschönhauser Strasse and Judith-Auer-Strasse between 15:00 and 16:00.
No announcements were made concerning this event and only people who passed by the site by coincidence witnessed the installation. Behind the decision to not announce the event is the idea that art can only be experienced by coincidence of mental and physical states within a specific point in time.
